What Is an Insurance Claim?

When you file an insurance claim, you’re making a request to your insurance company to receive money. These funds will help you pay for repairs and expenses caused by an event that is covered by your insurance policy.

When you file a claim, you’ll have to file paperwork, and your insurance company may send an insurance adjuster to examine what happened to make you file the claim. If your claim is approved, you’ll receive a check to cover your losses.

If you’re in a car accident and you or the other driver (or passengers) are hurt, you should automatically file a claim.

  1. When Fault is Ambiguous

If there’s confusion over who is to blame for an accident, you should file a claim and let the insurance companies figure it out.
